As promised, the Utah GIS Portal now offers a online discussion forum for registered users. The intention of this forum is to discuss Utah-specific GIS topics and to further the ability of the Utah GIS user community to act as a resource to one another.
The forum and its functionality are accessible from the GIS Forum button on the portal's main menu or by going to http://gis.utah.gov/gis-forum.
The GIS Portal Search functionality now returns results from the Forum posts too. (06/04/08).
Currently there are several forums pertaining to programming (ArcObjects, ArcGIS Server, & Python) and data models/standards. Any registered user may post new topic threads to existing forums and reply to existing threads after logging in to the portal. These forum areas are just starters to get the forum going. The Utah GIS Portal is a statewide resource for sharing information pertaining to digital mapping and related technologies. This site catalogs freely available GIS datasets, data standards, online digital maps, GIS projects and initiatives, upcoming events, and other resources.
The gis.utah.gov portal and its contents are maintained through the collaborative efforts of the Utah Automated Geographic Reference Center (AGRC), partnering agencies (from local, state, and federal agencies), and members of the Utah Geographic Information Council (UGIC) -- the state GIS users group.
GIS users are encouraged to become registered users of this portal, become regular consumers and contributors to the site's content, and to provide comments and suggestions that will lead to enhanced utility of this site.
