It would be swell if AGRC would purchase the contour data from Salt Lake County and then make them available for free.
AGRC has consistently advocated for open, free GIS data sharing by all levels of government because we think that it is the best way to squeeze the most benefit from the resources used to collect the data. Additionally, AGRC feels this position is supported by Utah's Government Records and Management Act (GRAMA).
Not all agencies have adopted this business model for a variety of reasons including revenue generation and security. From AGRC's perspective, buying and distributing protected local data would set an unwanted precedent and would probably also violate the terms of the data purchase.
