The Utah Automated Geographic Reference Center (AGRC) is mapping rural roads over public lands in conjunction with the Public Lands Policy Coordination Office (PLPCO). These roads are commonly referred to as RS2477 rights of way. In the 1866 Homestead and Mining Act in Section 8 of the Act of July 26, 1866, it states. "The right of way for the construction of highways over public lands, not reserved for public uses, is hereby granted." In 1872 the law was recodified and this statement was then known as Revised Statute 2477. On October 21, 1976 it was repealed in the Federal Land Policy and Management Act. AGRC's road centerline collection utilizes mapping grade Global Positioning Systems (GPS) units. Various attributes and photographs of the road are also collected. All questions regarding this project should be directed to John Harja (
