GRASS GIS (Geographic Resources Analysis Support System) is a free, open source geographical information system (GIS) capable of handling raster, topological vector, image processing, and graphic data.

wxPython is a great GUI library that you'll want to look into. It's not as easy as VB GUI's, but it's pretty intuitive once you jump in. I really like the book "wxPython in Action" which should get you going in no time! good luck...

Rasters 3 Weeks, 3 Days ago
Hello, Mike here. I'm presently doing some volunteer GIS work for the "Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies". It involves mostly raster conversions using the "Spatial Analyst" extension. I'm kind of new to rasters and I'm constantly experimenting with various SP tools as well as third party python scripts, mostly from ESRI ArcScripts.

To the point:

I have novice skills with Java and newly acquired skills with Python.

I'd like to have a Python GUI which allows me to pick various methods from the GP.Describe() object. Is it possible to have a script within my "ToolBox" which would produce drop down lists of various describe methods as well as required parameters.

I'm just looking for a quick way to view my efforts as most of them are usually wrong or experimental.

Welcome Pythonistas!!! 3 Months, 1 Week ago
Thank you to everyone who endured my python classes at UGIC 2008! I've volunteered to monitor this forum, which mainly involves deleting Viagra advertisements and the like. I'm sure there are much better python programmers out there, so if you are one or know any, please let them know about this forum!

Is anyone working on anything interesting?

Kevin
