This presentation [download powerpoint file] was developed to highlight the data layers in Utah's State Geographic Information Database (SGID) and other resources available for GIS-based energy analysis. The presentation was given to the Public Utilities and Technology Interim Committee, Wednesday, April 16.
Energy-related GIS data layers currently available include:
Energy Resources: oil, coal, natural gas, geothermal leases, wind potential, solar potential
Energy Infrastructure: pipelines, transmission lines, substations, power plants
DOE-defined energy corridors
Land ownership
Transportation: roads, rail
Terrain models
Aerial photography
Wilderness areas
Other base referece layers
The presentation included a demo of an ArcGIS Server application that allows some of the energy-related GIS data to be previewed and displayed through a web browser-based interactive map. The URL for this application is http://mapserv.utah.gov/energyresources.
Data shown in the powerpoint slides and the interactive map application comes to the SGID from partnering agencies including the Utah Geologic Survey, the Utah Energy Office, Salt Lake City, and the Division of Oil, Gas, & Mining.
