Cindy Clark – AGRC – Vanishing History/Saving Geospatial Data – 10 Minutes

Joe Borgione – AlpineGeographic/VECC – 40 Minutes

Salt Lake Valley Emergency Communications Center (VECC) provides 9-1-1 dispatch service to all public safety agencies outside of Salt Lake City within Salt Lake County. For several years the VECC IT department has deployed an enterprise GIS utilizing ESRI’s SDE for SQL Server. Using the versioned environment, individual city GIS personnel are able to maintain street centerline data so that current, up-to-date data is used in the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) at VECC.

In addition to the versioned environment, VECC and several cities have migrated to the ‘distributed database’ or replication environment. This approach allows the cities and VECC to maintain the centerlines using just a common set of attributes; individual agency needs for VECC and the cities are accommodated as each can add their own specific attributes to the respective replicated geodatabase feature class.

This presentation demonstrates the core concepts of database replication and will describe methods used to create published GIS resources and internet map applications.

Dave Vaillancourt – ESRI – Building Web Applications Using the Flex Sample Viewer – 40 Minutes

ESRI recently released the ArcGIS Server APIs, and along with these new tools, a series of samples to help you get started building your own web mapping applications. The ArcGIS API for Flex enables you to build dynamic rich Internet applications (RIAs) on top of ArcGIS Server. Create interactive and expressive Web applications leveraging ArcGIS Server resources—such as maps, locators, and geoprocessing models—and Flex components—such as grids, trees, and charts.

The Flex sample viewer was designed to showcase some of the core capabilities of the ArcGIS Platform through a simple, modern, Web2.0 style user interface. This sample may be used in compiled form with simple modifications to its configuration file, or its source code can be used by application developers to further  programming patterns of the ArcGIS API for Flex.

During this presentation, we’ll explore the sample viewer for Flex, and configure our own web mapping application.
