SGID Update: Uintah & Grand County Boundary Fix PDF Print E-mail

Written by Bert Granberg,

The GIS staff at SITLA pointed out an error in the SGID93.Boundaries.Counties data layer which has now been fixed.

The error was a small digitizing error from years back near the western most portion of the shared boundary between Uintah and Grand counties. A correction was made after consulting with the county boundary descriptions in Utah State Code. A similar but different error seems to appear on BLM survey plats of this area and will be brought to the BLM's attention.

This data layer has been updated on the SGID ArcSDE 9.3 database server and in the file geodatabase and shapefile products on the agrc ftp site.

One note, as this error was small and in a very remote area, AGRC does not plan to re-clip all of the county-based file geodatabase and shapefile products to agree with this boundary update. However, from this point forward, the updated versions of the Grand and Uintah county boundaries will be used for any new shapefile and file geodatabase products for these counties.

SGID: Updated Municipal Boundaries PDF Print E-mail

Written by Bert Granberg,

A new municipal boundaries layer for Utah cities and towns is now available on the SGID ftp site and SDE server. The dataset called SGID.U024.Municipalities, attempts to represent the ground condition at the end of the 2008 calendar year.

This dataset was prepared by AGRC by refereeing between data submitted to the Lieutenant Governor's office for boundary change certification and data provided directly from several participating entities in the following counties:

  • Box Elder
  • Cache
  • Carbon
  • Davis
  • Duchesne
  • Emery
  • Iron
  • Millard
  • Salt Lake
  • Tooele
  • Uintah
  • Utah
  • Wasatch
  • Washington
  • Weber

Thus features in this dataset do not represent the legal boundaries of these entities but rather an interpreted layer that attempts to take the best data available and remove overlaps and other logical inconsistencies to display the boundaries as they are implemented and administered locally.

Download this dataset in Shapefile or File Geodatabase formats

SGID: Muncipal Boundaries Update PDF Print E-mail

Written by Bert Granberg,

The SGID.U024.MunicipalBoundaries feature class has been updated in Wasatch County, including the addition of two newly incorporated towns: Hideout and Independence.

In addition, municipality names have been changed, where necessary, to reflect the city/town name as it appears on UDOT's official state highway map as it was felt that the highway map best represents a balance of both preferred and colloquial name designations for cities and towns across the state. As an example, 'Ogden City' is now 'Ogden'. In the future, we'll include GNIS names and official incorporation names as well.

Updates are available via connection to the SGID ArcSDE Server and in file-based download products in SHP and FileGDB formats.
