Cody Spendlove, Alpine School District --> Water Glyphs Update

After the "Extreme GIS" UGIC conference in Moab a decision was made to "share" data with the Southern Utah University GIS Research Lab http://www.suu.edu/sci/physci/gis/) under the direction of David Maxwell (http://www.suu.edu/faculty/maxwell/). Since that decision, the waterglyph project has grown to over 340 confirmed instances of these unique navigational petroglyphs. SUU has contributed both GIS equipment and valuable intern time to the project. This "Waterglyph Update" will highlight some of the challenges in aquiring data sets for this project, provide new information as to their construction dates, and increase awareness as to the extent of thier use in ancient American history.

Currently the Director of Technology for Alpine School District, Cody has been a High School counselor, a college recruiter and a professional software designer/trainer for the U.S. Dept. of Education Challange Grants (SURWEB), the Southeast Educational Service Center (MyEdesk) and the Utah State Office of Education
(UTIPS) projects. With a B.A. in Southwestern History and a Masters degree in Secondary Education, Cody's background of growing up on the Navajo Indian Reservation, as well as living in Central America,
bring a unique, if somewhat colorful, perspective to  more traditional views of Native American history.
