• Does local caching, data and edits can be stored locally if offline.
• Editing data. If not on-line can synchronize at certain times to push data and edits to the server.
• ArcGIS Server serves out the map that is used in the application. Can also use SDK and use Visual Studio to build your own apps.
• Currently doesn’t have the ability to do differential corrections.

• Picked a vendor that wasn’t too expensive (CartoPac), could support both hardware (Trimble) and software. 5 mobile units
• Kept learning curve to a bare minimum for public works field crews.
• Concentrated on signs and culverts.
• Had a relationship table related to the features so a history could be kept for each feature.
• Confined data entry to pick-lists as much as possible.
• Used ArcGIS Diagrammer (on arcscripts.esri.com page) to set up the empty geodatabase and schema prior to data collection.

Bill Nelson – Iron County
Serve 3 groups in the county.
It/GIS staff
Building inspectors
Noxious weed crew

David Evans – St. George City
• Had to back up and collect control before collecting utilities.
• Now using ArcGIS Server enterprise version. Using ruggedized notebooks in the field running arcPad S/W.   Using Arc Editor.
• Use ArcCatalog for data check in and check out. Crews check in each Friday by 3:00pm, so updates to the database are weekly.
• Have 11 machines that are out in the field.

Matt Lee – Dixie NF
Motorized Travel Plan (MTP) generated the need for mobile devices.
• Prescription
• Implementation
• Monitoring
They are on the implementation step now.
Prescription Team
District specialis that visit each route. The “prescription” is how to close the road or trail.
Implementation Team
Carry out the “prescription” in the field.
Monitoring Team
Team that monitors the road closures.
• Will start in 2010.
• Currently 2496 miles of closed roads.
• Needed to be sure that the teams knew exactly where they were. Decided to go with ArcPad as a solution. Also use ArcPad Studio.
• The application makes sure that the teams are in the correct place, and that the implementation team knows what the prescription is. This also records the completion of the implementation,.
