Joomla, the CMS software used for gis.utah.gov, controls access to certain areas and features of a site through use of a basic ACL, or Access Control Level mechanism called Groups. Certain groups have certain access level features and they are directly related to the creation, editing and publishing of content (through the Frontend and Backend interfaces) as well as to access to the Administrative (Backend) interface.
Each group has different levels of access control and once a user is made a member of that group, they inherit those rights. There are four (4) Front-end groups and three (3) Back-end (admininstrator) groups available. These are described below:
Welcome to gis.utah.gov, the GIS portal website for Utah!
The Utah GIS Portal is a statewide resource for sharing information pertaining to digital mapping and related technologies. This site catalogs freely available GIS datasets, data standards, online digital maps, GIS projects and initiatives, upcoming events, and other resources.
The gis.utah.gov portal and its contents are maintained through the collaborative efforts of the Utah Automated Geographic Reference Center (AGRC), partnering agencies (from local, state, and federal agencies), and members of the Utah Geographic Information Council (UGIC) -- the state GIS users group.
GIS users are encouraged to become registered users of this portal, become regular consumers and contributors to the site's content, and to provide comments and suggestions that will lead to enhanced utility of this site.
