Geologic Map Images Available Via SGID Image Server PDF Print E-mail

Written by Buck Ehler,

The Utah Geological Survey in partnership with the Utah Automated Geographic Reference Center (AGRC) has created two new Image Server layers for the SGID (State Geographic Information Database).  Approximately 138 published 1:24,000-scale and 23 published 1:100,000-scale geologic maps have been added, with more and higher resolution maps to come in the future.  Currently, these maps can only be viewed using ArcMap utilizing the add Image Service button [more Image Server info], but additional viewing options will be available in the future.

Explanatory information and diagrams, including descriptions of map units, are needed to understand and interpret these maps.  To obtain more information about a particular map, use the SGID index of 7.5’ quadrangles to obtain the quadrangle name for the map (because the border information has been clipped off to allow adjacent maps to abut).  Visit the publisher’s website (Utah Geological Survey - http://geology.utah.gov/maps/geomap/index.htm ) or (U.S. Geological Survey - http://ngmdb.usgs.gov/ngmdb/ngm_catalog.ora.html ) to download explanation plates and text, or to order the map.
